For a Sustained Canadian Energy Systems Modeling Initiative
In collaboration with the Institut de l’énergie Trottier, IQCarbone recently published a white paper on the relevance for Canada of supporting a sustained Canadian energy systems modelling initiative.
In a context of reducing GHG emissions, it is essential to use effective models to understand and analyze complex energy systems in societies. Understanding these systems is a key to the development and implementation of energy policies by decision makers.
This report, entitled For Sustained Canadian Energy Systems Modelling Initiative tackles modeling and describes key principles and practices in energy system modeling. It lists best practices in other countries, including California, the United States, the United Kingdom and Sweden. The report also discusses modeling in Canada and identifies gaps in the modeling of Canadian energy systems.
With a view to contributing to a national energy strategy, the report makes recommendations, especially to create and develop knowledge-sharing structures for modeling energy systems through existing institutions and access to information in the public space.
